In 2010 the villagers of Oberammergau will perform their world-famous Passion Play for the 41st time since the village was saved from destruction by a pact with God.

The amazing origins of the play date back to 1633 when the village, faced with the deadly plague, made a vow to God to perform a homage to Jesus' life, death and suffering every ten years, if they survived. From this moment the entire village was left untouched and as a result the villagers of Oberammergau have performed this play every ten years for over four hundred years.
